Women anchors benefit from Fox News reshuffling

Fox News is reorganizing its programming and promoting women to more prominent roles, as the network continues to reel from a series of sexual scandals.

Fox announced Tuesday that longtime on-air personalities Dana Perino and Harris Faulkner were each given their own daytime shows as a part of the changes to take place Oct. 2. Sandra Smith, co-host of Fox’s “Outnumbered,” was also named new co-anchor of the newsier “America’s Newsroom,” currently helmed by Bill Hemmer.

“Harris, Dana and Sandra are rising stars and their combined background and expertise across news, business and politics will enable us to provide a more in-depth look at the major stories breaking out of Washington, and around the country,” Jay Wallace, Fox’s president of news, said in a statement. “We are living in unprecedented times and this new lineup ensures our viewers will get the best news, information and analysis on the news of the hour across the nation and around the globe.”

Fox also recently named contributor and conservative radio host Laura Ingraham as host of a new primetime show.

For more than a year, Fox has been embroiled in several sexual harassment controversies, with women accusing former CEO Roger Ailes and now-former Fox hosts Eric Bolling and Bill O’Reilly of inappropriate behavior.

Each of the men denied the accusations though all were ousted by the network.
