Our colleague Patrick Ruffini points out that there is a bellwether Congressional race currently underway, in Massachusetts’ 5th Congressional District. The Republican candidate — whom polls show to be within striking distance — is Jim Ogonowski. Ruffini has this to say about Ogonowski and the race:
There’s a special election coming up in Massachusetts’ 5th district – and make sure you’re sitting down – we have a chance at an upset. The GOP candidate is Lt. Col. Jim Ogonowski (Ret.) and a SurveyUSA/WBZ poll out last week had him within 10 points of entrenched Democrat Niki Tsongas, widow of the late Senator and presidential candidate. That’s remarkable against someone with 100% name ID… in the current political environment… in Massachusetts! If Jim’s name sounds familiar it’s probably because his brother John Ogonowski was the pilot of American Airlines Flight 11 on September 11th. Jim is a 28 year veteran of the Air Force and Air National Guard.
