Progressive Caucus co-chairwoman claims Pelosi is jealous of AOC's Twitter following

The co-chairwoman of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, Pramila Jayapal, responded to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s rebuke of Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez by suggesting she was jealous of her Twitter following.

“I don’t think the speaker is used to having a group of members who has bigger Twitter followings than her. I don’t think most of us are,” Jayapal said Thursday in an interview with Politico.

When asked about Ocasio-Cortez saying Pelosi singled her and her allies out because they are women of color, Jayapal said that comment “resonates” with her.

“God, it totally resonates with me, absolutely,” the Washington Democrat said. “We women of color have faced this for such a long time … We are in a body of mainly old white men. You don’t get to be here without having dealt with that, most people.”

Pelosi held a closed-door meeting Wednesday in which she urged members not to use Twitter to target other members of the caucus.

The meeting followed almost a week of back-and-forth in the media between the Pelosi and Ocasio-Cortez, which culminated with Ocasio-Cortez suggesting Pelosi was racist, before later backtracking.
