Only a year after releasing “Gulf Coast Highway,” the California-born singer-songwriter who makes his home in New Orleans has released another CD, “Between Motion and Rest.” “Making this record was so much fun for all of us old friends,” Lindell said. “It was long overdue, and I’m so glad that we could make it happen.”

Perhaps it’s not surprising that Lindell released another disc so soon. Consider that when he approached his previous album, “Gulf Coast Highway,” he had to whittle 40 songs down to the final 11.

“I really wanted to capture the sound of a live show,” Lindell said of that album. “Ivan Neville played organ, I used the bass player with Galactic [Robert Mercurio], and I grew up with the guy who played drums on the record. So basically I got together with a bunch of friends … I always wanted to [join in a] band. It was actually a little sentimental.”

The same was true for this latest release, which Lindell created with the help of Peter Joseph Burtt (“Lucky Lucky”) and other friends including Jake Brown, Adam Theis, Peter Smith and, of course, Neville.

The songs are almost as eclectic as the lineup, ranging from “Hard To Believe,” a cover of a classic Curtis Mayfield song, to the softer “Bodega,” a song Lindell wrote with bass player Chris Arenas.

Although there are some sentimental twists on this album, including “Matrimony” which Lindell wrote for his wife, the album is full of peppy, foot-tapping sounds. Many musicians rely on Web delivery for collaborations, but it’s clear that Lindell and company gathered in a studio to crank out these musical beauties.

“I just make music for myself that can translate into something to which other people can relate,” Lindell said. “It’s got a lot of energy.”
