Comedian Rob Schneider to John Lewis: Martin Luther King ‘didn’t give in to his anger or his hurt’

Comedian Rob Schneider on Monday attempted to take Rep. John Lewis to task over the venerated Civil Rights icon’s declaration that Donald Trump is not a “legitimate president.”

“Rep. Lewis. You are a great person. But Dr. King didn’t give in to his anger or his hurt. That is how he accomplished & won Civil Rights,” Schneider, known for starring roles in “Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo,” and “The Hot Chick,” tweeted.

Lewis, D-Ga., was one of the original “Freedom Riders” during the Civil Rights era and spoke at the March on Washington where Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his “I have a dream” speech.

Trump and Lewis have been engaged in a back-and-forth since Lewis’ comments late last week, when he told NBC’s “Meet the Press” that Russian interference delegitimized Trump’s election.

“I don’t see the president-elect as a legitimate president,” Lewis said. “I think the Russians participated in helping this man get elected. And they helped destroy the candidacy of Hillary Clinton.”

In response, Trump called the congressman “all talk” and said Lewis’ district is in “horrible shape and falling apart.”

Lewis responded in a fundraising pitch that he’s “been beaten bloody, tear-gassed, fighting for what’s right for America. I’ve marched at Selma with Dr. King. Sometimes that’s what it takes to move our country in the right direction.”
