A New York man was shot and wounded by state troopers after brandishing a bow and arrow and attempting to charge officers with the weapon.
A press release from the New York State Police says officers arrived in response to a domestic violence incident, but after speaking with the victim, a male suspect, identified as 40-year-old Ryan T. Ehman, “advanced towards Troopers armed with a bow and arrow.”
“Troopers gave several commands to drop the weapon, and after he failed to comply a Trooper discharged his Division issued firearm, striking Ehman,” the press release said.
Ehman was then taken into custody and transported to the hospital by helicopter to receive treatment for his injuries.
Police have yet to update Ehman’s condition, and charges against him are pending as they continue their investigation.
The story comes at a time when police shootings have been under intense scrutiny after the death of George Floyd and the shooting of Jacob Blake, which sparked protests across the country over the summer.
Most recently, far-Left “Squad” member Rep. Ilhan Omar accused the Minneapolis Police Department of “state-sanctioned murder” after officers fatally shot 23-year-old Dolal Idd.
Body camera footage showed an armed Idd ram two police cruisers before opening fire on police, causing officers to return fire that resulted in the fatal outcome.
Minneapolis, which was the site of Floyd’s death and saw massive protests and riots over the summer, began bracing for more protests after the most recent incident.
“We want to do everything we can to protect everyone’s first amendment rights. … But I say again; we cannot allow for destructive, criminal behavior,” police chief Medaria Arradondo said. “Our city has gone through too much.”
