At Half-Empty Rally, Trump Claims ‘Hundreds’ Turned Away

Cedar Falls, Iowa

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump is holding a rally here at the University of Northern Iowa Tuesday night, and the room was about half full shortly before the event began. Take a look:

When Trump arrived on stage, he claimed the room was partially empty because the local fire marshal had warned the floor of the event might collapse, and that “hundreds” of people were being turned away at the door.

UPDATE: A reporter at FiveThirtyEight confirms that the fire marshal did close off the rally, but according to the reporter, dozens of people were shut out, not hundreds.
