Several people shot near transportation center in Philadelphia

Multiple people have been injured after gunfire broke out near a transportation center in Philadelphia, according to local authorities.

While details of the shooting are still unclear, Philadelphia police said that seven people were shot when the violence erupted shortly before 3 p.m. on Wednesday near the Olney Transportation Center in the northern part of the city.

The conditions of the victims have not yet been released, although authorities said those who were wounded were shot in their backs, ankles, legs, and arms, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Six of the gunshot victims were transported to the Einstein Medical Center, and one was taken to Temple University Hospital. The victims range in age from 17 to 70, police said.

Police said they have one person in custody after a foot chase and recovered two firearms from the scene. Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw thanked the work of law enforcement in catching the suspect following the attack.

“It’s very brazen. We had officers, whether it’s from SEPTA, were out here. We were able to get someone in custody as quickly as we did because we had officers in the area working on another assignment,” Outlaw said, referencing the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority. “So it’s not for our lack of presence out here, but I think it’s very telling that folks that are willing to engage in these shootings are becoming more and more emboldened, regardless or not if they see us out here.”
