White House rips Iran’s ‘reckless actions’ following Trump’s nuclear deal withdrawal

The White House on Friday slammed Iran’s recent attacks against U.S. partners in the Middle East, citing the regime’s behavior as “further proof” that President Trump made the right decision earlier this week to withdraw from the nuclear deal with Iran.

“Already this week, the [Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps] has fired rockets at Israeli citizens, and Iran’s proxies in Yemen have launched a ballistic missile at Riyadh,” press secretary Sarah Sanders said in a statement.

Israeli Defense Forces targeted Iran’s military infrastructure in Syria earlier this week after Tehran reportedly fired rockets against parts of the Jewish State. The escalation between Iran and Israel was followed by Houthi rebels in Yemen firing ballistic missiles at Saudi Arabia, where authorities intercepted them before any damage was done.

“These actions are further proof that the Iranian regime’s reckless actions pose a severe threat to regional peace and security. It is time for responsible nations to bring pressure on Iran to change this dangerous behavior,” Sanders said Friday, claiming Iran has prioritized its role as a “destabilizing influence throughout the Middle East … even as the Iranian people are victims of a struggling economy.”

The direct conflict between Iran and Israel occurred just days after Trump announced his plan to withdraw the U.S. from its 2015 nuclear agreement with the country, which he described as “defective at its core.”

In describing the reasoning for his decision, the president said his administration was disappointed with the deal’s failure to address Iran’s aggressive activities in Yemen and Syria.
