TODAY show host Al Roker watched the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade from home like the rest of America for the first time in 27 parades.
Roker posted a video of himself leaving the hospital early Thursday to his Instagram account, assuring his followers in the caption that he was returning home. The anchor has been off the air for two weeks, sharing in another post that he was in the hospital to receive treatment for blood clots in his lungs and legs.
“Back home in time to catch a little bit of the [parade],” Roker captioned another photo of himself in front of his television, set to NBC’s TODAY show. “Missing being next to [Savannah Guthrie] and [Hoda Kotb].”

“For the past 27 parades, at this moment, Savannah, we would turn to Al Roker, who is our TODAY show colleague and our best pal,” Hoda Kotb said on air Thursday. “But as a lot of you have heard, Al’s recovering — he’s recovering very well from a recent medical issue. And we just want to say we love you, Al. Wondering if you’re watching, but we wish you a full recovery.”
“We love you, Al. We’ll see you next year,” Savannah Guthrie said. Roker’s co-anchor then introduced his stand-in, Dylan Dreyer, who was on site Thursday.
