Indiana Gov. Mike Pence scored a vice presidential debate victory in his Tuesday night showdown with Virginia Sen. Tim Kaine, according to a poll released soon afterward.
According to the new survey, 48 percent of those who watched Tuesday’s debate believe Pence emerged as the victor, while 42 percent say Kaine outperformed his Republican counterpart.
Most notably, Pence easily won the expectations game. According to the poll, 67 percent said that Pence exceeded expectations in the debate. Only 14 percent said that he did worse than expected, with another 15 percent saying he did exactly what they expected.
As for Kaine, only 38 percent believe he outperformed expectations compared to 43 percent who said that he underwhelmed during the 90-minute debate. Just like Pence, 15 percent said his performance equaled their expectations.
The polls was taken from a focus group of voters in Virginia.
