The Republican chairman of the House select committee on the 2012 Benghazi terrorist attack told Hillary Clinton that his investigation is “not about” the former secretary of state, despite claims to the contrary from members of Congress in both parties.
South Carolina congressman Trey Gowdy spent his opening statement at Thursday’s hearing defending the work of his committee. At one point, Gowdy directed his comments toward Clinton herself.
“Madam Secretary, I understand there are people, frankly, in both parties, who have suggested that this investigation is about you. Let me assure you it is not, and let me assure you why it is not,” Gowdy said.
