Biden thanks troops deployed overseas in Christmas phone calls

President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden spent part of Christmas Day calling units from each branch of the military deployed around the world to thank them for their service, the White House said Sunday.

The Bidens spoke to the Army’s 3rd Squadron, 1st Security Force Assistance Brigade in Panama City. They also spoke with the Navy’s USS The Sullivans destroyer in the Arabian Sea, the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego, the Air Force 18th Security Forces Squadron in Okinawa, Japan, Space Force’s 4th Expeditionary Electromagnetic Warfare Flight Delta in Europe, and those stationed on the Coast Guard Cutter Bertholf in Alameda, California.

‘IT’S GOING TO OK’: BIDENS READ TO HOSPITALIZED CHILDREN BEFORE CHRISTMAS

The first couple phoned those units on Sunday afternoon while celebrating a low-key Christmas with family at the White House. On Christmas Eve, the Bidens attended Mass before gathering with children and grandchildren in the executive mansion for an Italian dinner, a family tradition. The dinner was followed by a family sleepover, also a Biden tradition.

“From the entire Biden family to yours: Merry Christmas, America,” the president tweeted Sunday.

Biden later posted a photo as he and the first lady finished decorating their Christmas tree. “Hope you and your loved ones are having a great Christmas Eve,” the tweet read.

This is the second Christmas the Bidens are celebrating at the White House. The family had historically celebrated the holiday in Wilmington, Delaware.

On Friday, the Bidens visited children at Children’s National Hospital in Washington, D.C., to take part in the annual holiday tradition of presidents and first ladies reading to young patients at the facility.
