Democrats fired back at House Speaker Paul Ryan after the Wisconsin lawmaker posted a selfie that was lacking in diversity.
Capitol Hill interns decided to show off their “#DemInternDiversity” in a selfie that was posted to Texas Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee’s Twitter account.

Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson, D-Texas, also posted another shot of the Democratic congressional interns, with the caption “The picture of the Democratic interns look [sic] a lot different than the#speakerselfie #DemInternSelfie #Diversity”

Ryan’s original #speakerselfie was posted Sunday and immediately recieved backlash from Instagram users who thought the selfie was not representative of the U.S. population.
According to a Congressional Research Service Report, Congress has 47 African-American members, 38 Hispanic or Latino, 14 Asian and two Native American members.
