If there’s one thing former reality TV star Donald Trump and his campaign team don’t need to stock up on ahead of Thursday’s GOP primary debate, it’s confidence.
The real estate mogul appears to have plenty of it.
And not just him, but also his underlings, including attorney Michael Cohen, who said Wednesday that the firebrand candidate is “über successful” and the “best negotiator in the history of this world.”
Cohen’s boasting came during a line of questioning from CNN’s Chris Cuomo.
“Donald Trump has a lead and not a small lead, in too many polls to be discounted,” the CNN anchor said, referring to Trump’s huge lead over his GOP competitors. “What do you say as to why people keep dismissing him?”
“Because they are in someone else’s camp. I speak to a lot of these reporters on the other side as I do interviews,” Cohen said. “And they are part of the Bush camp, the Walker camp, the Cruz camp. They’ll say whatever they can in order to demean him. It is not working, he is leading by double digits … They can dismiss him all they want, they did that from the beginning.”
Cuomo then suggested it may be difficult for Republican presidential candidates, including Sens. Marco Rubio of Florida and Rand Paul of Kentucky, to beat Donald Trump when it comes to dealing with “image.”
Cohen added to this thought by saying it’d be “impossible.”
The CNN anchor continued, noting that criticism aimed at Trump doesn’t seem to stick.
“Donald Trump, it doesn’t stick with him, why?” Cuomo asked.
“Don’t forget. He’s not a politician. He’s an über successful billionaire businessman. He’s a problem solver. That’s why he’s leading the polls. He’s an amazing negotiator, probably the best in this world. He will deal with trade and deal with issues. We don’t know what all the facts are,” Cohen said. “Clearly, nobody in this country believes the information we are receiving is accurate anyway.”
“What do they do? They look to a guy who is proven to be successful, a doer and gets things done. That’s why Trump is leading,” he added.
Prior to Trump’s campaign launch in June, he starred in a reality TV show where he and his children fired little-known celebrities from a fake job.
Trump’s corporations have also filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy four times, and his name is attached to multiple failed commercial ventures, including Trump Vodka, Trump Steaks, Trump Magazine, Trump Mortgage and Trump University.
