Flack elected to board of D.C. Jazz Festival

Grammy Award-winning musician Roberta Flack has been unanimously elected as a new D.C. Jazz Festival board member.

Flack, who graduated from Howard University and taught in D.C. public schools in the 1960s, also serves as honorary chair of the DCJF Education committee and leads the DCJF Roberta Flack Music Excellence Program. That program offers free concerts, workshops, after-school programs and master classes for Washington’s youth.

Flack performed at this year’s festival in June at George Washington University. The DCJF Education Program introduces jazz to the youths of Washington and promotes jazz as an important musical form of arts education.
