President-elect Trump may be considering Sarah Palin, former Alaska governor and Republican vice presidential nominee, to lead the mismanaged Department of Veterans Affairs.
Palin has expressed interest in the VA secretary position, according to multiple reports that cite sources close to both Palin and the transition team.
An early Trump backer, Palin has been floated for multiple positions in the Cabinet, including for secretary of the interior.
Trump is also reportedly considering former Sen. Scott Brown, former head of Concerned Veterans for America Pete Hegseth and Rep. Jeff Miller, chairman of the House Veterans Affairs Committee, to head the VA.
The post will carry particular significance in the Trump administration given how forcefully the president-elect ran on his promise to revamp the agency.
Under President Obama, the VA suffered the worst scandal in its history when whistleblowers exposed a nationwide effort to cover up long wait times by creating fake patient waiting lists at 110 facilities.
Palin has become a controversial figure since her presence on the 2008 Republican ticket launched her to international fame. In addition to stints on Fox News and TLC, she has spent the intervening years campaigning on behalf of Tea Party candidates, with a mixed record of success.
