A stray bullet struck a woman in northeast Washington, D.C., while she was lying in bed Thursday evening.
The bullet sailed through the woman’s window and grazed her head when a shooting broke out late at night, according to police.
The woman’s mother, who wished to remain anonymous, told NBC 4 that she found her daughter covered in blood.
“She said, ‘Mom, I’m hit, I’m hit!’’” the mother recounted. “I didn’t know how bad she was hit … you just see blood everywhere.”
The injured woman is expected to make a full recovery, but her mother said this wasn’t a new occurrence for the area. She said that another shooting this week ended with bullet holes in her car.
“This just need to stop. You’re not even safe in your own home,” the mother said.
No arrests have been made as police continue to investigate.
