Pardon the Pundit Finals at the Arlington Cinema ‘n’ Drafthouse, Friday The Pardon the Pundit competition has been narrowed down from approximately 30 contestants to a lucky seven.
The finals are on Friday at the Arlington Cinema ‘n’ Drafthouse.
Pardon the Pundit is a D.C.-based political satire website that began within the last six months and is the brainchild of Drafthouse owner Greg Godbout. Recent headlines on the PTP website include “Michele Bachmann: ‘Yes, Bat Boy is my son'” and “CNN airs story about average-looking kidnap victim.”
Yeah, sorta like the Onion.
PTP found such a positive response that plans for a comedy competition were put into place. Future plans include regional shows, a live tour in 2012 and television appearances.
“It has been great,” said Bridget Ochs, Pardon the Pundit’s competition director. “We have such great comedians and brilliant writers.”
Ochs added that some political satire writes itself, and that real life can be more ridiculous than what is written.
“You kind of have to laugh at it,” she said of the modern political climate, adding that political satire obviously plays very well in D.C. “I think it’s something the area can really enjoy.”
