Late-night host Bill Maher questioned whether Joe Biden should exit the Democratic presidential primary amid the controversy stoked by his son’s involvement with a Ukrainian gas company.
“If Al Franken had to go because Dems had to be totally clean on MeToo stuff in comparison with Trump/Rep.s, should Biden withdraw so Dems are totally clean on Ukraine swampiness?” Maher said Monday on Twitter. “Its not a fair comparison, but neither was Franken. Asking for a friend.”

Maher, 63, said on Friday that Democrats were being hypocritical by not criticizing Biden and his son, Hunter, saying, “If Don Jr. did it, it would be all Rachel Maddow was talking about.”
“The more I read about this — you know, I don’t think he was doing something terrible in Ukraine, but it’s just so — why can’t politicians tell their f–king kids, ‘Get a job? Get a goddamn job,'” Maher said on his show. “It just looks bad, and the Republicans are geniuses at muddying the water. It’s all gonna be about, ‘You did this in Ukraine? Well, Joe Biden did this.'”
Biden and his son’s ties to the Ukrainian gas company have come under renewed scrutiny after Democrats opened an impeachment inquiry into President Trump for asking Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to investigate potential corruption by the Bidens.
The former vice president and his presidential campaign have claimed he has done nothing wrong and that the media should stop talking about it. The Trump administration contends that asking the Ukrainians to investigate Biden was Trump’s attempt to fulfill his promise “to drain the swamp.”
