THE ORDER: United is buying 150 Boeing 737s, including 100 new 737 Maxes with a more fuel-efficient engine.

WHAT FOR? United will use the first planes to replace old ones. The 737 Maxes that begin arriving in 2018 can be used for either expansion or replacement, depending on demand.
