Montgomery County will celebrate Maryland Disability History and Awareness Month and National Disability Employment Awareness Month at the Silver Spring Civic Building on Oct. 11.
The event — “Snapshot: Capture…Connect…Create” — is sponsored by the county’s Department of Health and Human Services, Aging and Disability Services and Commission on People with Disabilities, and Prince George’s County’s Department of Family Services and Commission for Individuals with Disabilities and the Maryland Division of Rehabilitation Services.
Speakers will include state Department of Disabilities Secretary Cathy Raggio and Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services Director Uma Ahluwalia.
The announcement comes after news that Montgomery County needs to spend upwards of $20 million to make its buildings and parks accessible to people with disabilities.
Those who wish to attend can call Independence Now at 301-277-2839 to register.
