Gingrich: Democrats ‘shattering’ of healthcare is backfiring

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich proposed on Wednesday that the Affordable Care Act was designed to crush the private sector healthcare industry and role out socialized medicine to Americans. The problem for Democrats, according to the GOP leader, is that it’s falling apart too soon and could cost Hillary Clinton states she needs to win on Nov. 8.

“This is the Democrats’ first big step of government-run health insurance and so, shattering the private sector that it’s not sustainable. But it’s happening too soon. It’s happening now before the election,” Gingrich told Fox News host Sean Hannity. “This stuff’s all been a lie … the architect of Obamacare actually said, ‘look, it was designed to do this.'”

Gingrich has endorsed Republican nominee Donald Trump and has insisted through his regular appearances on Fox this election cycle that the billionaire businessman will win the election.

On Wednesday, Gingrich pointed to Minnesota, where polls show Clinton leading Trump 43 percent to 41 percent. The increasing cost of healthcare in Minnesota is an important issues to voters there, so much so that the governor has discussed calling the state legislature into a special session to find a solution to the extra high hikes residents are expected to see from Obamacare in this next year.

“I think there are 600 counties that are down to one insurance company. And I think that kind of stuff jars people and they say, ‘wait a second,'” Gingrich said. “I don’t want to continue this with Hillary Clinton – if this is what it’s going to mean. I can’t afford it.”

Gingrich pointed to Arizona, where residents will see a 100-percent increase in certain healthcare costs. He argued battleground states, including Pennsylvania and Ohio, could come out for Trump on Election Day, if voters cast their ballots with their health costs in mind.
