House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi asked Vice-president elect Pence to ask President-elect Trump to rescind his appointment of Steve Bannon to a senior White House position.
Pelosi met privately with Pence in the House on Thursday as the former GOP House lawmaker and Indiana governor made the rounds on Capitol Hill.
“During their meeting, Leader Pelosi expressed the deep concerns House Democrats have with the appointment of Steve Bannon,” an aide said. “Leader Pelosi asked the vice president-elect to urge the president-elect to reconsider the appointment.”
Bannon is the former executive in charge of Breitbart News, which has published stories some say are offensive to Jews and women. Some Democrats have labeled Bannon a white supremacist while Republicans have mostly avoided judging the appointment because most have not met him.
Trump last week named Bannon a senior strategic adviser in the White House.
