McCain: Trump ‘should suffer consequences’ for his comments on women

Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., called on Friday night for Donald Trump to pay the price for his actions after a video revealed earlier in the day seemed to show the GOP nominee in 2005 talking about using his fame to take advantage of women.

“There are no excuses for Donald Trump’s offensive and demeaning comments. No woman should ever be victimized by this kind of inappropriate behavior. He alone bears the burden of his conduct and alone should suffer the consequences,” McCain said in a statement.

The 2008 GOP presidential nominee has not endorsed Trump, though he did say he will support the nominee, and has been the subject of Trump’s criticism during the campaign, most notably when he said last year that McCain was “not a war hero” during the Vietnam War because he was captured and spent years as a prisoner of war.

House Speaker Paul Ryan also expressed his dismay with Trump’s hot mic debacle Friday evening, canceling an appearance with the candidate in Wisconsin on Saturday.
