Trump goes after John Lewis as a serial boycotter of GOP inaugurations

President-elect Trump’s feud with civil rights icon Rep. John Lewis stretched into its fifth day Tuesday when Trump called Lewis a serial boycotter of Republican presidential inaugurations.

“John Lewis said about my inauguration, “It will be the first one that I’ve missed.” WRONG (or lie)!” Trump tweeted. “He boycotted Bush 43 also because he ‘thought it would be hypocritical to attend Bush’s swearing-in….he doesn’t believe Bush is the true elected president.’ Sound familiar!”

Lewis boycotted George W. Bush’s first inauguration over objections to the election process and subsequent recount.

Lewis made headlines on Friday when he said he doesn’t believe Trump is a legitimate president due to Russia’s hacking into the Democratic National Committee and preference for Trump in the election.

That led Trump to fire back on Saturday with multiple tweets attacking Lewis, calling him “all talk, talk, talk no action” and telling him to focus on fixing his district.

Lewis spoke on Monday for the first time since his kerfuffle with Trump, but never mentioned the president-elect by name.

Since Friday, more than 30 other Democratic lawmakers have announced their intention to follow Lewis’ lead and not attend Trump’s inauguration.
