Supreme Court to hear Chris Christie’s challenge to New Jersey sports gambling case

The Supreme Court said Tuesday it will consider whether to restore a New Jersey law that would legalize some forms of sports gambling.

The high court agreed to hear the challenge from New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who’s squaring off against the NCAA.

At issue in the case is New Jersey’s decision to repeal various prohibitions on sports gambling in certain venues, which the 3rd Circuit Court of Appeals decided was unlawful. The federal appeals court said federal law could dictate how and to what extent states must have prohibitions on sports betting.

The Supreme Court agreed to hear the challenge from Christie, despite the Trump administration’s asking the high court to deny the case.
