Ted Cruz’s father to be ‘exposed?’: Twitter jokes impending JFK assassination files release will prove conspiracy theory

The Cruz-Kennedy assassination connection was fueled during the 2016 campaign by a National Enquirer report that claimed that Cruz’s father, Rafael Cruz, was photographed with Lee Harvey Oswald before Kennedy’s killing. Then-candidate Trump further fanned the flames of the conspiracy theory when he suggested that Rafael Cruz had ties to Oswald.

At the time, Cruz’s campaign dismissed the report as a “false” claim in a “tabloid full of garbage,” and the senator mocked the allegation. “Yes, my dad killed JFK, he is secretly Elvis, and Jimmy Hoffa is buried in his backyard,” Cruz said.

There is no evidence to support the Enquirer report or Trump’s assertion, but that hasn’t stopped people from keeping the idea alive.

As of press time, Cruz has yet to comment on the imminent release of the JFK files. However, the Republican senator from Texas is not one to shy away from having some fun with conspiracy theories about himself. On Wednesday, he cracked a joke about the conspiracy theory that he is the Zodiac Killer.

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee got into the joking spirit, tweeting that he is relieved that the JFK documents will come to light to prove he wasn’t involved in the JFK assassination.
