WHAT: Amtrak used federal stimulus dollars, which are supposed to be used for job creation, to buzz saw down more 200 trees in New York City’s Woodside neighborhood.
WHY IT’S AN OUTRAGE: Many of the felled trees, which acted as a noise buffer, were located more than 50 feet from the tracks. Meanwhile, Mayor Michael Bloomberg is spending taxpayer money to plant trees in the same Queens borough as part of his MillionTreesNYC initiative.
