Six shot at large party that violated California stay-at-home order

Six people were wounded in a shooting at a large party in California over the weekend, leading to a search for four suspects.

Investigators with the Kern County Sheriff’s Office said the incident happened Saturday evening at a party in a Bakersfield apartment complex with around 400 people in attendance, defying Democratic California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s “stay at home” lockdown order intended to curb the spread of the coronavirus.

Officers responded to a 911 call at about 12:30 a.m. local time and found five adults and one juvenile wounded in the shooting. They were transported to a hospital for what were described as non-life-threatening wounds, but officials with the sheriff’s office said the victims have not been cooperative in their investigation, according to KGET.

“Unfortunately, it came to a bad end,” Kern County Sheriff’s Lt. Cesa Ollague said.

Investigators found 94 shell casings and three live ones on the scene, according to the Associated Press.

Four suspects, described only as black males, were spotted fleeing the scene in a white car. Investigators said at least one person at the party returned fire during the shooting.

California has had more than 22,400 cases of the coronavirus and at least 633 associated deaths, according to the latest tally by the New York Times.
