Attorney General William Barr said he does not care what people think about him during his interview with CBS.
Barr has been heavily criticized for his decision to conclude President Trump did not commit obstruction of justice in the investigation that looked into Russian ties with his 2016 campaign. He has also been criticized for the memo he sent about Robert Mueller’s final report and the press conference he held before the redacted version was released.
“I am at the end of my career,” Barr said. “Everyone dies and I am not, you know, I don’t believe in the Homeric idea that you know, immortality comes by, you know, having odes sung about you over the centuries, you know?”
Barr said he does not regret becoming the Attorney General for a second time and he loves the Department of Justice.
During the same interview, Barr broke with Trump and said he does not believe the members of the FBI or the Department of Justice committed treason when they started the investigation into possible Russian ties.
Trump has accused FBI Director James Comey, former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe, and former FBI Deputy Assistant Director Peter Strzok of committing treason because they “unsuccessfully tried to take down the wrong person.”
Despite his belief on the issue, Barr has picked Connecticut’s U.S. Attorney John Durham to lead the inquiry into the origins of the Trump-Russia investigation and the conduct of the Department of Justice and the FBI.
