New ad pitches Jeb to minorities, women

Jeb Bush makes a play for minority and women voters in a video leading up to his campaign announcement Monday.

Themes of equality and helping the vulnerable set the tone in the 3:13 video, which features black and Hispanic Floridians talking about how, as governor, Bush guided policies helping domestic violence victims and the developmentally disabled.

“My core beliefs start with the premise that the most vulnerable in our society should be at the front of the line, not the back,” Bush says in the clip. “As governor, I had a chance to act on that core belief.”

Leadership isn’t about “yappin’ about things,” he adds. “What we need is new leadership that takes conservative principles and applies them so that people can rise up.”

His ad represents a new spin on his brother George W. Bush’s “compassionate conservative” message.

The former two-term Florida governor plans to officially announce his candidacy for president from Miami on Monday. Some polls show him leading the pack of GOP primary contenders.
