Brett Favre’s projects tied to massive welfare fraud: Leaked texts

Leaked texts and documents appear to implicate NFL legend Brett Favre further in the largest welfare scandal in Mississippi history.

The documents and texts, obtained by CBS News, relate to the drug company Prevacus’s attempts to procure funds from the state of Mississippi — and Favre’s involvement in the effort. Favre was previously accused of receiving millions in funds from Mississippi state coffers intended for welfare programs, some in exchange for motivational speeches he never gave, according to MSNBC. The revelations show another way Favre was involved in the welfare scandal in the poorest state in the United States.

Prevacus, an experimental drug company developing a drug intended to help with concussions, was found in new documents to have asked for $2 million from Mississippi’s Division of Human Services, which would be used for research. In exchange for funding, the drug would be made in Mississippi, terms by which the deal was sealed, reports said. Favre was heavily involved with the company and promoted the drug frequently.

BRETT FAVRE SACKED OVER MAJOR MISSISSIPPI WELFARE FRAUD SCANDAL

Court documents show that $1.5 million of this total was sent, and texts purportedly show Favre’s business associate asking for the rest.

“I will need to let Brett know that we will need to pull this from what we’re hoping to help him with on other activities,” Nancy New, the founder of a nonprofit group tasked with distributing welfare funds, responded, according to the texts.

For his part, Favre fervently denies any wrongdoing, saying he is being slandered by the media.

“I have been unjustly smeared in the media,” Favre said in a statement to Fox News Digital on Tuesday. “I have done nothing wrong, and it is past time to set the record straight.”

“No one ever told me, and I did not know, that funds designated for welfare recipients were going to the University or me. I tried to help my alma mater USM, a public Mississippi state university, raise funds for a wellness center. My goal was and always will be to improve the athletic facilities at my university,” he added.

Favre’s weekly radio show was paused after he urged state officials in Mississippi to provide financial assistance for sports facilities at the University of Southern Mississippi, according to reports last month. At least $77 million in state welfare funds were misspent or stolen as part of the scandal, reports sad.

Favre has not yet addressed the new claims surrounding Prevacus.
