Gore revisits 2000

Former Vice President Al Gore asked Democrats to consider “what if.”

The former nominee, who lost the 2000 election by a hair, talked about what might have been if that contest had gone differently, telling the massive Invesco stadium crowd that things would be much different “and better” in America.

“Take it from me, if it had ended differently, we would not be bogged down in Iraq, we would have pursued bin Laden until we captured him,” Gore said. “We would not be facing a self-inflicted economic crisis, we would be fighting for middle-income families.”

Gore stepped out on the stage to the Fifth Dimension hit “Aquarius/Let the Sunshine” from the 1968 play “Hair” and dedicated part of his speech to global warming, a “planetary emergency” that he said is intertwined with the economy and national security.

“The solution to all three require us to end our dependence on carbon-based fuels,” Gore said, adding that goal can be accomplished by electing Obama.

Gore said Obama’s “leadership experience has given him a unique capacity to inspire hope, in the promise of the American dream of a boundless future.”
