Donald Trump said the Miss Universe pageant winner Hillary Clinton used in the first presidential debate to attack Trump was “the absolute worst” they had ever had.
“She was the worst we ever had,” Trump said on Fox News. “The worst, the absolute worst. She was impossible, and she was a Miss universe contestant and ultimately a winner who they had a tremendously difficult time with as Miss Universe.” Trump owned the international pageant from 1996 to 2015.
Trump said Alicia Machado was “a real problem” because of “her attitude” and the “massive amount of weight” she gained after her 1996 victory. “She was the winner and she gained a massive amount of weight, and it was a real problem,” he said.
Machado told Inside Edition earlier this year that Trump called her “Miss Piggy” and “an eating machine” after she gained weight, leading to her five-year struggle with bulimia and anorexia. Clinton said during last night’s debate that Machado has become an American citizen and “you can bet she’s going to vote this November.”
The beauty queen, who has campaigned for Clinton, tweeted her thanks in Spanish for the Democratic presidential candidate’s support of women following the debate.
Trump said Clinton talked about Machado “like she was Mother Theresa,” but alleged the reality of the situation was allegedly much different.
“This was many years ago, and [she] found the girl and talked about her like she was Mother Teresa and it wasn’t quite that way, but that’s okay. Hillary has to do what she has to do,” said Trump.
