Poll: 41 percent support Trump impeachment hearings

Forty-one percent of adults believe Congress should hold impeachment hearings to remove President Trump from the White House, according to a new NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll released Wednesday.

Of those who believe Congress should move to impeach Trump, 70 percent are Democrats, 40 percent are independents, and 7 percent are Republicans.

More than half — 54 percent — think Congress should not hold impeachment hearings, while 5 percent said they aren’t sure.

The poll’s release comes about a week after Democratic Rep. Al Green promised the House would again vote on whether to impeach Trump.

A majority of Democrats joined with Republicans in early December to block a resolution calling for Trump’s impeachment after Green forced a vote on the measure. Just 58 Democrats supported the measure.

The survey of 900 adults was conducted Dec. 13-15. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.3 percentage points.
