The man who was arrested Thursday after a six-hour standoff with Baltimore police is connected to at least five commercial robberies in the county this month, police said.
Paul Fitzgerald Hamby, 43, “strong-armed” the clerk of a Reisterstown Road Shell gas station Thursday shortly before noon and fled in a Mazda with an undisclosed sum of money through Pikesville into the city, according to Baltimore County Police.
After police chased him, he barricaded himself inside a home on West Lafayette Avenue.
City police said they believe Hamby was “familiar” with the owner of the home, where tactical officers entered around 6:30 p.m. and arrested him.
County detectives connected Hamby?s description, vehicle and methods to four other robberies: Express Fuel/Petro gas station on York Road, Dec. 22; Mount Washington Cleaners on Bellona Avenue, Dec. 22; Meadowcroft Exxon on Mount Carmel Road, Dec. 25; and Food Lion on Village Center Road, Dec. 26.
