Haley to attend Ernst’s ‘Roast and Ride’ Iowa fundraiser as special guest

Republican 2024 contender Nikki Haley will take part in Sen. Joni Ernst’s (R-IA) annual “Roast and Ride” fundraiser for veterans next month.

Ernst, a former military officer, has been neutral in the GOP primary, and Haley is the first declared hopeful announced as a guest for the event, which will take place at the Iowa State Fairgrounds on June 3.

Other 2024 hopefuls were invited, including former President Donald Trump and Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL), who has not declared his campaign, Ernst told NBC News. The senator, whose home state is the leadoff in the GOP primary process, indicated she does not plan to endorse in the primary.

“Roast and Ride is THE event to be at in 2023! Nikki Haley knows that Iowans take our job of vetting presidential candidates seriously, and I’m thrilled to welcome her and many more 2024 Republican hopefuls to Iowa on June 3,” Ernst said in a statement. “Democrats are ditching Iowa, but I will proudly showcase our beautiful state and our people — because, after all, we are FIRST in the nation!”

Haley has barnstormed the Hawkeye State aggressively since debuting her campaign back in February. She’s attended dozens of events in Iowa, and the “Roast and Ride” will be her second major event with Ernst.

“As a military family, we know how important it is to take care of our veterans on and off the battlefield. We’re looking forward to joining @JoniErnst in Des Moines for her annual Roast and Ride benefiting Iowa’s Freedom Foundation!” Haley tweeted.

The event will feature a motorcycle ride and a roast at the state fairgrounds.

One of Ernst’s claims to fame was an ad she cut during the 2014 election cycle showcasing her farm life bona fides and boasting about her knowledge of how to castrate a pig. She vowed to take her farmhand skills to Washington.
