Trump on Lewis skipping inauguration: ‘He’s just grandstanding’

President-elect Trump is accusing Rep. John Lewis of grandstanding after the Democratic lawmaker from Georgia said he would be skipping inauguration because he doesn’t believe Trump is a “legitimate” president.

“He just grandstanded,” Trump told Fox News in an interview set to air Wednesday. “He got caught in a very bad lie.”

On Tuesday, Trump lashed out at Lewis for also skipping former President George W. Bush’s first inauguration, stretching their feud into its fifth day.

“John Lewis said about my inauguration, ‘It will be the first one that I’ve missed.’ WRONG (or lie)!” Trump tweeted. “He boycotted Bush 43 also because he ‘thought it would be hypocritical to attend Bush’s swearing-in … he doesn’t believe Bush is the true elected president.’ Sound familiar!”

Trump said Lewis’ decision to skip the inauguration is making the lawmaker “look bad.”

The incoming president did not seem as concerned with other Democratic lawmakers skipping the event.

“As far as other people not going, that’s OK because we need seats so badly,” Trump said. “I hope they’re going to give us their tickets.”
