Interactive event uses audience to tell tale

Move over, Dr. Doolittle, and make way for Diego.

An 8-year-old bilingual animal rescuer and nature expert, the animated Nickelodeon star Diego talks to animals ? and captivates audiences of 4-year-olds everywhere.

Based on the hit Nick Jr. series, “Go, Diego, Go! Live: The Great Jaguar Rescue” will be stopping by the Hippodrome this week for nine performances.

The show follows closely on the heels of the hugely popular “Dora The Explorer Live!” project from Nickelodeon and Live Nation.

Along with cousin Dora and sister Alicia, Diego begins a challenging journey into the rainforest to help his friend, Baby Jaguar. The show also features songs and activities from the television series.

“It?s interactive and great for the family. We want this to be kids? first theatrical experience,” said Stuart Rosenstein, vice president of Nickelodeon Recreation.

Richie Portela, 27, plays Diego. “Children around the world love Diego, so I am excited for the opportunity to portray their hero live on stage,” Portela said.

Each child who attends the show gets a plastic jaguar mask to help Diego and Dora in their quest to help the animals.
