Poll: GOP’s Young leads Bayh by 5 in Indiana Senate race

Indiana GOP Rep. Todd Young leads former Democratic Sen. Evan Bayh by 5 percentage points, 46-41, in a new poll of the Indiana Senate race.

The WTHR/HPI poll of Indiana also shows 7 percent of those surveyed remain undecided. Young has gained 6 percentage points in WTHR/HPI’s polling since September, while Bayh has dropped 3 points during the same timeframe.

The Bayh and Young contest to replace retiring GOP Sen. Dan Coats could be crucial to Republicans’ chances of holding the Senate. Bayh was a late entrant into the Hoosier State race, but allies of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell have invested a lot of resources in helping Young via the Senate Leadership Fund, a super PAC.

The WTHR/HPI poll surveyed 600 likely voters by cell phone and landline telephones from Nov. 1-3. Public Opinion Strategies conducted the poll, which has a 4 percentage point margin of error.
