TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — An Army reservist is suing Gov. Rick Scott and a state agency claiming he was demoted because of an overseas deployment.
Walter Kreitlow claims in the suit filed Wednesday against Scott and the Department of Business and Professional Regulation that his job as a law enforcement trainer was eliminated and he was pressured into a demotion because of his deployment to Afghanistan in 2012.
Kreitlow is a sergeant in the reserves and is still employed at the agency.
The department provided documents that showed Kreitlow’s position in Tallahassee was eliminated as part of a restructuring, but he was offered an equivalent job in Miami. Rather than move his family, Kreitlow voluntarily accepted a demotion and pay cut.
Scott spokesman John Tupps said the governor appreciates Kreitlow’s service to the nation and state.
