Donald Trump held a lengthy press conference Tuesday evening at around the same time that Hillary Clinton delivered a victory address to her supporters, and the cable networks chose to carry every minute of the billionaire businessman’s remarks.
Trump spoke for more than 40 minutes about topics ranging from his discontinued line of steaks, to his opinion of former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, to his success in the polls, to polls he didn’t like, and he also took questions from members of the press.
CNN, MSNBC and Fox News carried every minute of it, with no breaks for commercials.

Clinton meanwhile spoke to voters in Cleveland, Ohio, in a speech that went totally ignored by the three biggest cable news networks at the time of Trump’s presser.
When the GOP front-runner eventually wrapped up his news conference, MSNBC turned to Clinton’s speech. However, by the time MSNBC cut from Trump to Clinton, there were approximately six minutes left to her 20-minute speech. So MSNBC aired a delayed version of her address.
CNN, for its part, turned to a panel after Trump’s remarks to analyze the casino tycoon’s every word, and discussed what it all meant for the 2016 election. When the panel ran out of Trump-related issues to debate, CNN turned finally to covering Clinton’s address. By then, however, the Democratic front-runner’s speech had already ended.
Fox didn’t cover Clinton’s remarks at all.
By the time Trump exited the stage Tuesday evening, he had been declared the winner in GOP election battles in Michigan and Mississippi. Clinton meanwhile declared victory in Mississippi, marking her latest triumph over Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt.
