DOJ will not seek stay in AT&T-Time Warner ruling

The Justice Department announced Thursday it will not seek a stay in the federal AT&T-Time Warner ruling.

DOJ insiders insist that the department is still considering about appealing the decision.

Judge Richard J. Leon ruled on Tuesday that there will be no conditions to the $84.5 billion merger.

“Ultimately, I conclude that the Government has failed to meet its burden to establish that the proposed ‘transaction is likely to lessen competition substantially,” he wrote.

The merger will give AT&T ownership over CNN, TBS, TNT, and HBO and make it the nation’s top pay-TV distributor, since it also owns DirectTV.
