A federal grand jury indicted a Utah man who threatened to kill President Trump during his visit to the state last month.
Travis Luke Dominguez, 33, was indicted on 11 counts Wednesday for making threats against the president, police officers, and people at a Utah bank, movie theater complex, and business, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Utah said.
Dominguez, of Midvale, Utah, threatened to kill Trump during his visit to Salt Lake City on Dec. 4, where he announced plans to scale back the state’s Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante national monuments. In a message submitted via the Unified Police Department of Greater Salt Lake’s web tip line, the 33-year-old threatened to harm police officers if they tried to stop him from killing Trump.
According to the indictment, Dominguez said in his threat, “I’m a Navy SEAL. … I woke up and decided to kill the president Donald Trump today. Please forgive me and then I will die by suicide by cop.”
Dominguez also wrote he was going to “kill the sexist, racist, homophobic President Trump today. Nothing you can do to save President Trump nor stop me pigs.”
The U.S. attorney’s office said Dominguez submitted other threats to the Unified Police Department’s web tip line, including three made Dec. 16, Dec. 24, and Dec. 31 to harm people at a movie complex in South Jordan, Utah.
In the tip submitted Sunday, the 33-year-old said he was going to hurt police officers who responded to the scene.
The threats involved the use of explosives or an active shooter situation, the U.S. attorney’s office said. Dominguez was arrested when police saw him near the movie theater.
Each of the 11 counts is punishable by 10 years in federal prison.
