Ambassadors scramble to meet Bill Clinton at Fourth of July party

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and her husband, former president Bill Clinton, made an unexpected appearance at the State Department’s rooftop Fourth of July party, according to a Yeas & Nays spy. The former president created quite the stir among the exclusive crowd of ambassadors and chiefs of protocol — our spy reports that people went bananas when they saw Bill.

“The amount of pushing and shoving that went on was crazy,” a source said. “People were knocking over chairs and knocking over children. It was a scrum. People were just pushing toward the corner of the room, basically trying to get an iPhone photo with Bill Clinton.”

Clinton, dressed in a pink shirt and gray blazer, obliged the crowd with photos and handshakes for about an hour. His wife didn’t last as long at the party, ducking out before the president was done mingling. Neither of the Clintons sampled the winner in the night’s pie-making contest (Belgium took the prize).

Our tipster reports that the former president looked “phenomenal.”

“Looked like he stepped in from a Hampton’s boating party,” he added. “Very slim, very healthy.”

Guests at the party, which was paid for by patrons of the State Department not taxpayer dollars, enjoyed fireworks, tasty food and face painting to the sounds of the Marine Corps Band.
