Judge dismisses Amber Heard’s claims of improper juror

A judge dismissed Amber Heard’s motion for a new trial against ex-husband Johnny Depp Wednesday over a juror the judge insists was vetted.

“The juror was vetted, sat for the entire jury, deliberated, and reached a verdict,” Judge Penney Azcarate of the Fairfax County Court said.

Heard’s lawyers previously filed a motion claiming that juror 15 had lied about their age, which they reportedly verified with publicly available information. Since this would be “improper jury service,” they requested a new trial.

The original jury summons was intended for a 77-year-old man, but his 52-year-old son, who goes by the same name and lives at the same address, responded, according to Depp’s lawyers.

Depp won all three of his claims of defamation in the first trial, leading to an award of $10 million in compensatory damages and $350,000 in punitive damages. Meanwhile, Heard won one of her defamation claims and was awarded $2 million in compensatory damages.
