Montgomery County says going green has paid off financially, with savings of $2 million between July 2003 and June 2010.
The county used energy efficient lights and temperature controls along with hybrid vehicles and water conservation efforts to chip away at energy costs. Park officials say the savings will continue to grow with the help recently-awarded Department of Energy grants for switching out street lights.
