Bomb scare clears federal building

The Secret Service evacuated a building near the White House Friday morning after a bomb-sniffing dog signaled that a car might have been carrying an explosive.

The vehicle, driven by a State Department contractor, entered the White House complex outside of Lafayette Park around 9:45 a.m., Secret Service spokesperson Kim Bruce said.

The bomb scare interrupted a press briefing, and police evacuated a building in the 700 block of Jefferson Place for about 30 minutes.
