Bill Nelson pulls ahead of Rick Scott in Florida Senate race: Poll

Florida’s Democratic Sen. Bill Nelson pulling ahead of his Republican challenger Gov. Rick Scott in the race for his Senate seat, just weeks after the two were neck-and-neck, a new poll reveals.

Overall, 53 percent of likely voters are supporting Nelson and 46 percent are backing Scott, according to a new Quinnipiac University Poll released Tuesday.

The divide is particularly evident among likely female voters. Fifty-eight percent of women support Nelson, but only 41 percent claim to support Scott. Meanwhile, 51 percent of men favor Scott and 47 percent of men favor Nelson.

The results come just a little more than a month before the November midterm elections.

Prior polling showed the candidates sharing similar support levels from likely Florida voters. According to a Quinnipiac poll released on Sept. 5, both men had 49 percent support among likely voters.

The most recent poll was conducted from Sept. 20 to 24 with a sample size of 888 likely Florida voters. The poll’s margin of error is 4 percentage points.
